Press the Reset Button

reset

Victory and greatness can sometimes blind me of the real important things in life.

Defeat and challenges can sometimes paralyze me to focus on the things that truly matter.

I feel like I always have to press the “reset” button every time either of those happen in my life.

And now, as I just turned 31 this month, I feel like I need to do a reset of priorities again.

I felt like I’ve lost the end goal in mind and I merely chose to live each day as it comes.

I lost a sense of target, a vision.

I realize that for the past months, I’ve wasted a lot of my time doing unnecessary things and sometimes not doing anything at all.

What happened to me, maximizing my life being single?

I don’t know. I just lost it.

But I’m grateful that I can always start again. I can always go back to my list of faith goals that I set at the start of this year.

I’m just glad I made a list!

As I once again press that “reset” button, I pray that I will never lose sight again of the vision that God has given to me at the start of this year. I pray that everything I will be doing will always be aligned to what God had already set for me for this year.

And as I continue to wait on certain things in my life, I pray that I will never grow weary and lose hope.

I will continue to live with God’s vision in mind, enjoying the present.

————-o————–

My heart is not proud, Lord,
    my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
But I have calmed and quieted myself,
    I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.

Reality in Fairy Tales

cinderella

When I saw the trailer of the movie, “Cinderella”, I was just ecstatic! I felt like Disney heard my wishlist! Cinderella has always been my favorite Disney Princess. I’ve watched all modern Cinderella movies a well as the cartoon movie series. And yes, I still enjoy watching those even until now. Thus, being ecstatic. 🙂

I was greatly satisfied with how the movie was made, keeping the classic story as it is. And the real glass slippers are so fancy!! I guess nothing could really beat Cinderella’s footwear! 😉 I’m glad how the movie emphasized so much on a lot of values such as courage, kindness and forgiveness, seeing a big percentage of the audience at the cinema were kids. In short, I was so happy I finally watched it! Yay! 🙂

And of course, there are always take homes from the movie. On my way home after the movie, I got reminded of this cliche that always goes around especially to single women, “There is not such man as Prince Charming.  They don’t exist.” It made me think why would people say that. Is it only because we base it on an actual prince that would sweep off a woman in distress? As I think of the qualities of the prince in the movie, it reminded me of what I read from the book “What is He Thinking?” (By Rebecca St. James). I, somehow, want to conclude that after all, we need more Prince Charming type of men.

An answer from a guy interviewed from the book, “What is He Thinking?”

Question: “Do you think that there is a shift toward a more organic approach to dating today?”

Guy: “Yes, and it is a good thing that people are forming genuine friendships. I also think that guys are more afraid to pursue women these days. It is a lot safer for guys. I do think that guys need to step up and come back to a place of pursuing women in an appropriate way. Ultimately, God calls us to take some risks to build our character and make us more like Him.”

That’s the reason why I said that we need more Prince Charming type of men nowadays. The prince was the one who really pursued Cinderella. He had to open the royalty ball to the commoners that he might be able to see her again. And when he did, he took that opportunity to know her more. And when she left, he never stopped looking until he found the perfect fit for the glass slipper.

To be honest, most of us single women just do not understand why it is so hard for men especially in our church community to pursue or even just attempt to build friendship with women. Is it really the fear of rejection? Or, is it the wrong perception of women? I wonder what guys are thinking about women that they prefer to walk away.

And with that question, obviously I am no expert on relationship or dating. I, myself, is trying to really see the reality of it especially that I live in a country that is so diverse and multicultural. But one thing I’ve learned from Cinderella, which I believe most of us women need to learn as well is to learn how to respond.

From the same book, one guy said, “Christian girls have strange expectations of what a guy should do in a dating scenario. They all want to be pursued, but they are also very cautious about showing interest in a guy – even if the girl really likes him. I get it. I really do. Dating is a game of cat and mouse. However, at some point a girl needs to take a chance and respond. Girls often expect a guy to keep pursuing them even though they have responded to the guy’s advances with nothing at all. That is an unfair power play, and ultimately flawed understanding on how a guy think and what he can handle. No man is bulletproof. It takes two to tango and at some point you are going to have to take a chance on a guy and see if you can dance.”

I realized Cinderella or any other Disney princesses learned how to respond when they were pursued. Though of course, in our reality, it’s not like we immediately get married. My point is, as women, we must also learn to respond in wisdom. We don’t need to complicate things that could give men the wrong hints. But, we still need to keep our guard as we allow men to pursue us.

I always believe that God is the one orchestrating every detail of event that would lead us to that person that He has prepared for us. Our part is to move our feet and walk with God as He brings us to that person. There’s so much learning and character building that God sometimes prolong the waiting for us. But no matter how long that will take,  it doesn’t change the fact that in God’s timing and way, He will give you the person who is your perfect fit!

Full of Strangers

Have you ever asked God why He allows you to meet different strangers at certain points in your life? Do you think God has a reason for every stranger that you cross path with?

Isn’t it amazing how God connects us with different people not just to those within our reach but even to those who are oceans apart from us? I never thought how technology could make it possible.

I believe that God puts people in our lives for a reason, even strangers that we get to talk for two minutes or less. We may not know what that reason is, but for sure, God makes it happen as part of His great plan in each of our lives.

When opportunity comes that strangers become strangers no more, it’s amazing when you see how relationships develop from a mere exchange of hello. Question is –  How much of our time right now are we giving to invest in building genuine relationships?

And, I’m throwing that question to all single women out there. As you wait for that person that God has set for you, have you been spending your time meeting different people and really building genuine friendship? How have you been intentional in meeting people? Or, have you been totally ignoring strangers?

Since I moved here May of last year, I’m just amazed how God allowed me to meet people of different backgrounds. There are people that I only get to see once a week but as you start sharing a bit of your life to them and so do they, it’s amazing how that once a week encounters grow into friendships.

As single, one of the many ways that we can maximize our time is to be part of a community. It could be a way to meet the person that God has prepared for you. 😉 Though of course, that is just a bonus if ever that happens. It’s really more of learning how to be selfless as we share our time to people who needs it.

So when you meet a stranger today and God touches your heart to give a little bit of your time, go ahead and do it. You’ll never know how that encounter would turn out into something beautiful.

“Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:1-2

Photo below: This is with my friend, Anni at Intramuros. I met her at a Bible class in a church I attended before here in Canada.  After the Bible class, we didn’t see each other anymore and God allowed us to meet again while we were volunteering at the church cafeteria. She is a perfect example of a person who invested her time to a stranger like me (stranger in the country to be exact). And since then, we’ve become good friends. God has used her so much to bless me especially when I moved here as immigrant.

Something New

When I was in college, I discovered my little interest in video editing. I believe my interest for making videos had been there since I was young.  Since my dad had his first video camera (remember those really big ones?), every special event was on the record. Too bad when our house was destroyed by fire, we lost all of those videos. I’m not sure if some were still saved. 😦

Anyway, that was when I learned how to operate the video camera. And I’ve been taking a lot of videos since then. From school projects, family outings and even random videos at home, I just enjoyed either taking videos or being in videos. 🙂

And when I learned the basics of video editing and some few tricks along the way, I just wanted to make and edit so many videos. Too bad I didn’t really consider pursuing it. But it’s never too late, right?

This site has been running for a long time but I haven’t really put anything in it for a long time. And today, I was thinking I need to put something new in the site which I will enjoy doing. (And hopefully, will have the time doing it). This got triggered by the way when I downloaded this mobile app called, “Dubsmash”. How it works is that there are different lines from movies, ads, musicals that you can dub with your video in it. I had so much fun that I had to send my videos to my brother. Well, my brother is really a better actor than me, his videos were so hilarious! I might share those videos someday. *wink*

So anyway, I’m planning to put a video blog for “Beautifully Waiting”. I’m still thinking of the concept and how I could make it work. I’m excited though as this will be my first time.

So if you ran into this post and would have some ideas, feel free to share. I am very much interested to know like what tools I can use or concepts or just anything.

For starters, here’s the official You Tube Channel – Beautifully Waiting going videos.

Pray for me! 🙂

Waiting for too long?

I can’t believe I’m turning 31 next month. Next year, my age is off the calendar month days. 🙂 🙂 🙂

But, it doesn’t really bother me. To have another year added is a milestone, a blessing. But for some it could be dreadful, especially to singles like me. Right? Right? Com’n… 🙂

You feel like you’ve waited for so long? I do. Let’s be real. And you know what I’m talking about. For sure, if you were at my age, you’ve been bugging God more often than before on when you will really meet that person that He has prepared for you. Well, maybe you have already. God is not just telling you, yet. 🙂

Well, anyway, so how has waiting been for you? Have you been very impatient? Are you almost giving up that you want to take ahead of God? Or, giving up and just really decided to remain single for the rest of your life?

I hear you, sister. Waiting for me recently hasn’t been easy as well. Especially that I just moved to another country, building relationships and meeting new people. Being away from family and my friends didn’t help at all at this time of waiting for me.

However, God has remained faithful. His love continues to sustain me that I can only remain joyful despite of going through this season with little loneliness sometimes. I know that God is at work at this aspect of my life. And if I take ahead of Him, I will totally mess up what He has been preparing ahead of time. And I don’t want to do that. I can only trust His timing.

I mean, life is meant to be lived fully as Jesus desired us to have. Regardless of how difficult this kind of waiting can be at times, life can still be lived abundantly. Because my life doesn’t revolve around me and what’s happening to me. My life revolves around Jesus who is the very reason why I wake up each morning even if at times I don’t feel like going to work. He gives me reason to take care of myself because of the purpose that He gave to my life. He pushes me to go beyond my comfort zone so that He may reveal Himself to me more and see how much He can do more. He is my reason for living.

As I wait and prepare for God to bring me to that person He has for me, I want not just to wait and prepare for that reason but all the more for the time that Jesus will come back.

That’s what makes waiting more purposeful and meaningful. Waiting not just for somebody but waiting for the One who is really worth the wait. Jesus Christ.

Happy Waiting! 🙂

Married to Single over Starbucks

A married couple from church offered me a ride home today. I thought they’ll just drop me off at the mall, but they also wanted to have coffee and stroll around. They invited me to join them and even gave me a frappuccino treat. It’s likea double treat! Free ride and free drink.

But wait, there’s more! 🙂

The best treat was to hear their own story of waiting. I can’t share their full story as I haven’t asked permission from them but I’ll share my take home notes.

1. I realized how important as a single to not just spend time with single friends but also with married ones. As we hear stories from married couples, it gives us a different perspective on how we should wait while we are still single. Take it from them, the experts!

2. Waiting doesn’t end when we are married. Waiting might even be harder when we are married. Waiting for a better job to support the family. Waiting for a baby to come. Waiting for a spouse who got assigned in a different place. I believe that being single is really a good training ground for waiting. So let waiting build our character!

3. Waiting teaches us to make mature decisions. We tend to be impulsive in our decisions because we only want what’s easy and comfortable. We never think of long term because we don’t want to wait. We want instant results. Another thing I learned over that Starbucks conversation – waiting may take long years but once it ends, we can move forward reaping and enjoying the results of it. That’s when we can say, indeed, it was worth it!

4. There is no deny that waiting is not just difficult but most of the time, really painful. It could really get frustrating that we just want to give up. It’s something that can’t be changed in the journey of waiting but it’s something that we can overcome. Having God in our life makes waiting less hard. It’s because we don’t rely on our own strength but on God’s. I must say, God makes waiting exciting than tiring!

5. And lastly singles, waiting is not a phase before marriage. A lot of married couples didn’t have to wait before they got married. A lot of couples are waiting on something even after they got married. Waiting, itself, is just like marriage. It is an event in our life that God has allowed to happen. And the good news is? GOD NEVER LETS US WAIT IN VAIN.

This couple’s story is one of those that displays God’s faithfulness to those who learn how to wait. Truly blessed to hear and learn from it. 🙂

What a triple treat today!!!
